Nationwide CoViD-19 lockdown impact on air quality in India

This paper discusses the comparative results of surface and satellite measurements made during Phase1 (25 March to 14 April), Phase2 (15 April 3 May) Phase3 (3 May 17May) Covid-19 imposed lockdown periods 2020 those same locations 2019 over India. These analyses are performed for Indian states Tier 1 megacities where economic activities have been severely affected with nationwide lockdown. The focus is on changes in concentration sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), PM2.5 PM10, Ozone (O3), Nitrogen (NO2) retrieved columnar NO2 from TROPOMI Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) MODIS satellite. Surface concentrations were reduced by 30.59%, 31.64% 37.06%, PM10 40.64%, 44.95% 46.58%, SO2 16.73%, 12.13% 6.71%, 46.34%, 45.82% 39.58% CO 45.08%, 41.51% 60.45% Phase1, respectively as compared During 1st phase lockdown, model simulated shows overestimations observed mass concentrations. underestimates without reduction before periods. emissions PM2.5, discussed transportation mobility maps study Reduction based data, showed excellent skills capturing Nevertheless, & 3rd phases AOD 5 40%. O3 was increased 1.52% 5.91% Phases respectively, while decreased -8.29% 2nd Phase period.
